Visitors of the Weekend Variety

It was a fun filled and busy weekend...our youngest son and his wife were in town for a friend's wedding and to celebrate their own anniversary. They had reservations at a restaurant where Daniel was a former waiter. He scored a job his senior year in college in one of the city's elite 'A' list restaurants. He actually was offered his first job after college graduation while working in the restaurant. He impressed one of his customers with the way he handled a rude guest so much he gave him his business card and told him to call when he graduated. He did...job offered. History made. Reservations, please!

Anyhoo, he and his lovely bride and their fur babies Zeus and Zoey, (two charming pugs) came to town. Now my lovely daughter gifted from this marriage made in heaven always comes bearing gifts. Very often of the baked variety; is there any other? She is a wonderful cook and brought us a coffee cake for the morning break of fast! This was what was left...
Five minutes later...the pan is totally empty!

Before departing on their return trip we met some of their siblings for a Sunday lunch at the family favorite hamburger joint, Fat Daddy's! The restaurant opened the year before we moved to our lovely new hometown. That would be twenty-five years ago! The manager has watched our kids grow and now our grandkids are joining the ranks of Fat Daddy aficionados.
You may have noticed from the photograph above, our oldest grandson has become a budding photographer. His Gramma Kate gifted him with one of her former cameras and he spent the weekend exhausting the first memory card. Can you imagine??? While with this Gramma he was busy deleting enough pictures to add to his portfolio. We again had dueling cameras! Now if I can just get him blogging...hmmm.
I tried to catch a snapshot of his younger brother Peter. It seems Peter had been the subject of most of his brother's pictures the day before and his enthusiasm had waned a bit...
He hadn't managed to completely dodge my camera lens but was working on it...when... Uncle Dan to the rescue! And up on the shoulders and off he went...nothing like having your Uncle whisk you up high and off for a ride!
You gotta get him centered...
Now that's what I'm talking about...
Yep. Time for a goodbye shot and everyone was off to Sunday countdown...

Make Him Fart Uncle Dan

I forgot some very special moments from the festivities! With all the smart phones in the family the 'older' boys are very busy trying to impress their niece and nephews. The latest big thing for them all is an app called Tom the Talking Cat or something along those lines. (Forgive me, I'm a Grandmother, I'm not cool enough to remember the names of the apps). For at least an hour we all sat around listening to the little ones go, 'Make him fart, Uncle Dan...make him fart'! Everyone would then convulse in laughter. The adults over the children's delight in the old standby bathroom humor and the kids over said bathroom humor. Obviously the nephews are fast learners...
Seems the real classics withstand the test of time!

Recent Blessings...

Psalm 127:3
3 "...Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a real blessing..."

We have had several family gatherings lately, a son's birthday, Father's Day and with all things wonderful in a family the most wonderful are the little ones. Enjoy our latest blessed days!
Trying on our Aunt E's shoes...

We had lots of fun amongst the cousins...
We all have fun when we go out for dinner...

Taking pictures of taking pictures...
And presents for the Pop...
Yes we are blessed...

The Pig Digs The Blue Devils

My oldest son and my brother attended rival colleges. Not during the same time period. My brother is not that much younger than I am (just don't tell him)! They seem to enjoy finding shirts for one another that keep the rivalry going. Here my brother is modeling his recent birthday present from my son. I would qualify it as a rather friendly rival shirt.

PS For those readers not familiar with Piggly Wiggly it was America's first independently owned and operated franchise of self-service grocery stores.

Go Blue Devils...Go Tarheels! Love you Bill and Steve, Jr.

Side by Side

Happy Anniversary Laura and Daniel. For a beautiful telling of their first two years together and how much this marriage is blooming, I bow to Laura's posting here. After reading her posting it brought to my mind the song, Side by Side by Henry Woods...in particular this is the part I was thinking of...

Oh, we ain't got a barrel of money,
Maybe we're ragged and funny
But we'll travel along
Singing a song
Side by side.

Don't know what's comin' tomorrow
Maybe it's trouble and sorrow
But we'll travel the road
Sharing our load
Side by side.

Through all kinds of weather
What if the sky should fall?
Just as long as we're together,
It doesn't matter at all.
When they've all had their quarrels and parted.

We'll be the same as we started
Just a-traveling along
Singing a song
Side by side.
Happy Anniversary Laura and Daniel.
Keep singing your sweet song!

Fathers I Know Best

Once upon a time a very special man became a Dad...he was learning as we travelled down the road of parenthood. He became exceptional at fatherhood!

Good Dad's read to their children, great Dad's cry when they read touching stories...
I dare YOU to read Where The Red Fern Grows and not get emotional...

Great Dad's share fun in the sun...
And life's very special moments...
Great Dad's have hugs, manly man hugs...
And lovey dovey hugs...
All through a daughter's life...
They really are the best dates...

They teach sons how to be Fathers...
And great Daddy's grow up to be wonderful Grandfathers.
Just ask his grandkids...they'll say it's so!

My husband and his Dad....

And of course there is my Dad...He showed me what to look for in a mate. A gentleman and a scholar! Miss you, love you now and forevermore...

It takes a special man to be a Dad...I love the ones I know best!

Happy Father's Day
